Solstice Neurosis!

Updated: Nov 14, 2022

Well guys, I lied.

Last week I said I was going to make this week's post about stopping

Kicking the Wheel of our habitual patterns.

I will still release that post, but I am postponing it until after the New Year. Anyhow, this week I decided to share about my Winter Solstice day with ya'll instead. It's going out quite a bit later than I had hoped due to some technical issues. (Technology is not my friend!)

Hope you enjoy!

Expressive Journaling

According to Erick Godsey, over 300 studies (by James Pennebaker) have been done on this writing approach, and it has been found to have profound healing effects.

Here’s the gist of the practice:

Pick something from your past that still bugs you - something that intrudes upon your conscious mind without your choosing, something that nags you involuntarily, chronically. Journal about it for 4 consecutive days for 20 minutes a day. You’re just writing openly about whatever is coming up - no editing, no overthinking what you're writing about - just let it flow out. The intention is to tell yourself the story of this experience.

So, in writing that synopsis I already realized that I haven't quite used the technique according to instructions, but I’m going forward with this post as is - mostly because I’m too lazy to go back and re-record my intro. (Perfectionist Oldie got gently put to bed early today.) While this journal entry was just about my current day when I wrote it, (December 21st), a lot of what was coming up for me was old shit that haunts me - old triggers, old thoughts that show up day after day and plague my mind.

1. These were all the places I edited. You're not supposed to edit with this expressive writing technique. I did my best.

Here's my video break-down:

Good lord, that was so fucking long. G-night, wizards. H
